Common questions
Who can get a reverse mortgage?
For a HECM, at least one borrower must be 62 or older, live in the home as their primary residence, and have enough equity. Counselling with a HUD-approved counsellor is required first.
Do I still own my home?
Yes. You keep the title. You must keep paying property taxes, homeowners insurance and maintenance, and keep living in the home.
What happens when the last borrower leaves?
The loan becomes due. Heirs can typically sell the home, refinance, or pay off the loan, and a HECM is non-recourse for the amount owed beyond the home's value.
